Our Culture
Every group of people has a culture and we want to be active and intentional about setting ours at Grace Community Church. We believe that culture is either a key enabler or a stumbling block to pursuing God’s purposes for us. We’re keen, therefore, to develop a culture that is based on the teaching and example of Jesus and which will help us to seek His Kingdom. As a church family we have settled on the following five areas of culture that we’re aiming to grow in: honour, compassion, authenticity, generosity and adventure.
Our History
Grace Community Church was formed from the joining together of City Church Stevenage and Hydean Way Baptist Church, both part of the Newfrontiers family. In 1999 David Devenish, one of the senior leaders of Newfrontiers, prophesied a common vision over the leaders of both churches to seek the ‘spiritual regeneration’ of Stevenage. Subsequently the leaders of the two churches worked more closely together and found that a deep and effective friendship formed. This led them to question what that meant for both churches and whether they could be better together than apart. After a period of relationship building between the two congregations and carefully seeking God together, Grace Community Church was born in October 2004.
What We Believe
We believe in one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that God the Son became a man, Jesus Christ, and that he died to pay for our sins and was raised again, defeating death. Through faith in Him we are forgiven and brought into relationship with God as sons and daughters; all this is a free gift of His grace. We are filled with the Holy Spirit to equip us to live new lives for Him and go and share His good news throughout the world.
